Period Poverty Awareness Week & Drive
About Period Poverty
The Alliance for Period Supplies created Period Poverty Awareness Week to draw attention to the issue of period poverty and the negative impact it has on people who menstruate. According to the Alliance’s website:
One in four people struggle to purchase period supplies due to lack of income. This is called period poverty.
Contribute to Our Period Poverty Drive!
No one should have to miss out on daily life because they are unable to afford basic necessities. We are accepting donations of period products (and related personal hygiene items) to make sure our neighbors have the basic necessities to participate in daily life with dignity.
We have put together some items in an Amazon Wish List for convenience, but items can also be purchased locally and brought to the Food Pantry (or arrange for pick-up by emailing info@southcommunityfoodpantry.org).
Community Support
We are extremely grateful for the young adults in our community who are raising Period Poverty awareness and supporting this project! The students in Donna Daigle’s Women's Health & Global Issues class at Miss Hall’s School in Pittsfield are working to raise funds to donate items to our pantry, and Wahconah Regional High School’s No Place for Hate student group is also tackling this issue, gathering donations for a Dignity Drive this month.
