Our Mission

South Community Food Pantry began as an outgrowth of St. Joseph’s Kitchen in the 1990s — as 12 emergency bags of groceries available after the weekly meal.

The need grew, and groceries were distributed from the South Congregational Church (now United Church of Christ, Pittsfield) office through the first decade of the 2000s. Around 2010 the mission moved downstairs to Barrett Hall, and the Pantry partnered with the Western MA Food Bank

Though South Community Food Pantry became a separate 501(c)(3) in 2023, the church remains our home and an essential partner to achieve the goals of our mission.

Our Mission

To provide for our neighbors in the spirit of generosity, respect, kindness, and acceptance so that no one in our community goes to bed hungry.

Our pantry was brought to life by community members who shared a vision. We welcome individuals from the community to assist in fulfilling our mission with their time, talents, and donations.
