Mary Wheat Honored at Berkshire United Way Centennial Event

Berkshire United Way presented the Daniel C. Dillon Helping Hands, Caring Heart Award to Mary Wheat, a founder and longtime chairwoman of the annual Thanksgiving Angels meal program who is now the president and site manager of the South Community Food Pantry.

Ms. Wheat and countless others who operate the county’s service institutions exemplify the amazing work we can accomplish when we volunteer like our communities depend on it — because they do. From food banks and shelters and care programs to assistance for seniors, young families and veterans, these life-giving initiatives run on people power. And the Berkshire United Way exemplifies what’s possible when we pool those efforts in a community-minded fashion, connecting volunteers with the issues that matter to them and the organizations that need them while collaborating with other groups to offer vital programs and services that might otherwise be out of reach.

Congratulations, Mary!!
